India is a trusted partner for capacity building needs of the Pacific Island nations. Almost 1000 government officials, professionals and executives have availed the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) scholarships in both civilian and defence courses in the last 8 years. India has sent ITEC Experts on long term deputations to provide expertise mainly in agriculture related subjects. Moreover, 1400 youth have been trained in advanced IT skills through the 6 Centres of Excellence in IT (CEITs) set up in the last 5 years.

Under the Sagar Amrut initiative, India is responding with renewed impetus to the specific training and capacity building needs of the PIC states. India is offering 200 fully funded scholarship slots each year to participants from PIC states. More than 35 high-quality courses at 20 eminent institutes in India would be offering around 1000 training opportunities for participants from these 14 countries over the next 5 years in Hospitality & Tourism, Nursing and Healthcare, Election management, Renewable & sustainable development, Media & broadcasting, e-governance, IT & cyber security, Agriculture & fisheries and other Technical trainings.
