About ITEC
The Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Programme,
ITEC for short, is the leading capacity building platform of the Ministry
of External Affairs, Government of India. Instituted in
1964, ITEC is one of the oldest institutionalized arrangements for
international capacity building having trained more than
200,000 officials from 160+ countries in both the civilian and in the defence
sector.
Building on India's vast and rich network of governance and development-related
expertise available in higher educational institutions and training facilities, ITEC annually offers more than 10,000 fully-funded in-person training opportunities at 100+ eminent institutes in India.
Since 2014, more than 80,000 professionals—including more than 30,000 women—from across all countries of the global South have availed of these training opportunities, and have taken back with them valuable exposures and development learnings from India. During the training year 2025-26 alone, close to 9000 professionals visited India for ITEC courses.
ITEC is administered by the Development Partnership Administration-II Division of the Ministry of External Affairs.
