HUMAN SETTLEMENT MANAGEMENT INSTITUTE  ,  NEW DELHI

The Human Settlement Management Institute (HSMI) was established in 1985 as the research and training wing of the Housing and Urban Development Corporation Ltd. (HUDCO). It provides training support to the professionals working at national level institutions, state government, Urban Local Bodies and employees of HUDCO. It also acts as a forum for interaction of administrators, professionals, researchers and others engaged in the issues and day-to-day practice of human settlement development. Over the recent years, the institution has been able to make a niche for itself by being one of the leading players in providing technical and capacity building support for successful completion of some of the major initiatives undertaken by the Government of India. The institute has recently launched four centres of excellence (CoE) with specialised teams and a governing council with national level experts to guide its day-to-day activities. HSMI is a member of CITYNET, Seoul and has MoU with Commonwealth Local Government Forum, London, Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies, Netherlands, etc. HSMI is also promoting decentralised centres of training at state and national level training institutions for the capacity building of local bodies and to make training programmes more accessible to the implementing agencies. HSMI has conducted over 1581 programmes so far and trained more than 43,000 professionals.
